Deepika Padukone, who was enjoying a vacation in the United States, ended her stay here as the main guest of the 10th Konkani Sammelan in San Jose, California.
Held in the heart of Silicon Valley at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, the three-day event featuring performances, musical shows, seminars, food and artwork celebrates and promotes Konkani’s cultural heritage and is a initiative to keep culture alive across the globe.
The Bollywood star then took to his social media to thank the Konkani Association of California.
She posted a few photos in ethnic outfits and captioned, “A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture are like a tree without roots. Thank you #KAOCA and people in my community for your love, warmth and blessings. I couldn’t be more proud (sic).”
Deepika was joined by her parents and her husband Ranveer Singh, who enjoyed her first date with the full fledged event which also saw an opening performance from Shankar Mahadevan.
In a few viral videos, Ranveer can be seen making a brief appearance on stage as he wowed the audience with a few lines to Konkani. Sitting next to Deepika in an ethnic outfit, he said “I’m really happy” in Konkani.
Shortly after, the room filled with a great cheer. Deepika also applauded her husband and said, “Bravo”. Towards the end, Ranveer said, “Dev bare karu (God bless you)” and left the stage.
